The women’s struggle for gaining political, economic, and cultural equality is a centuries-old phenomenon. Plato advocated women’s capacities to govern and defend ancient Greece. The women of ancient Rome protested against the Oppian which had restricted their access to gold and other valuables.

Islam came with a revolutionary message. It called for an end to female infanticide and claimed gender equality in all walks of life. The Prophet’s first wife, Khadija, was an independent businesswoman and proposed to him for marriage at the age of forty. His wife, Ayesha was a famous scholar and teacher. …

On Valentine’s Day, I came across a very nice quote which said, “Love is not a relationship between two people. Love is a way of life with everything.”

What it means is that love is not the name of a feeling towards someone or something. It is a way of having feelings for everyone and everything in our consciousness. Love is how we make sense of whatever is present. Love is a way to see, to hear, to smell, to taste, and to touch the soul of all creation. …

How we have lost connection to our true selves. How authenticity has become a rare phenomenon.

In the 19th century, Karl Marx identified four kinds of alienation that human beings had to experience due to the prevalent culture. Nowhere do we see that has changed at all.

Looking at how indifferent we are to the harm that we cause to the environment, it is so clear that we have lost all connection to the depth and beauty of nature. Even calamities like pandemics are not enough to stop us from all the rampage that we take part in. …

Ghissi Pitti Muhabbat

Mainstream Pakistani dramas usually display young men and women as strictly conformist in their superficial roles in society. They are either idolized or demonized. But Samia’s character is very different. She is very much human, a girl with strong individual traits and undaunted will power. The real strength of character is to be true to yourself and to feel proud of who you are. Samia is one such character. We rarely get to see such winning female characters in Pakistani dramas. I want to congratulate the writer for perceiving such a powerful personality for a Pakistani girl…

Self Pity isn’t witty!

You might have heard the proverb; Self-pity isn’t witty. Please register that it is rightly said. Self -reproaching and self-pity are rather injurious to mental health. I have included self-reproach with self-pity because these are two sides of the same coin. The emotion of self-pity is what is visible above the surface, whereas self-reproach lies deep down in one’s mind.

Those who are perfectionists to the point of absurdity rebuke themselves for being unable to meet the unrealistic expectations. They are not ready to comprehend and, therefore, accept their natural limitations. …
